Police descend on 'unauthorised meet-up' involving 200 cars in Aberdeen

Police descended on a car meet-up involving 200 vehicles in Aberdeen.

Officers were in attendance at a large-scale meet-up on Saturday, which spanned across the beach area, Garthdee and Portlethen.

Around 200 cars were present, and police say a number of offences were identified.

In total, 45 conditional offers were issued, three anti-social behaviour orders, 11 Prohibition offences were issued and one vehicle was seized.

In addition to the offences identified above, the DVLA supported officers, and five vehicles were clamped, five people were fined and 54 vehicles were reported for excise offences.

Four Vehicle Defect Rectifications were also identified, and five personalised number plates were issued revocation warnings.

A number of additional offences were identified, and enquiries will continue to trace those involved in the coming weeks.

Chief Inspector Andy Meikleham, lead for road safety and road crime for the North East, said: “We completely understand that people are passionate about their cars; however, these unauthorised meet-ups cannot continue to take place at the expense of safety and the surrounding communities.

“While we acknowledge that the majority of attendees did not cause any issues, we identified a number of offences across the evening, including with our partners at the DVLA.

“Our enquiries into this incident remain ongoing and we expect to identify further offences in the coming weeks.

“Driving in an anti-social manner is extremely dangerous and illegal, and I’d ask those involved to please think about the consequences of their behaviour not only on the community, but other road users.

“We will continue to police these events and take enforcement action where necessary.”
