Police were called to a restaurant in Aberdeen after a “gang of 30 kids” surrounded the building.

Staff at Duncano’s Bar Bistro, in Westhill, were forced to lock themselves in after being subjected to “harassment and abuse” from around 30 youths on Friday evening.

Restaurant bosses took to social media to share their outrage over the gang climbing on the building’s roof, surrounding the area, and entering to shout abuse at staff.

The post read: “So disappointed this evening that Duncano’s, a local business, has been subject to harassment and abuse from a gang of 30 kids – aged 14 to 16 – who are on our roof, surrounding the restaurant and even entering it to shout abuse.

“Police have been called four times, yet they are still here while me and my staff are locked inside.

“This behaviour can’t be allowed to continue in our community.”

Police confirmed no damage was caused to the property, however, advice was given to two people close to the scene.

A police spokesperson said: “On the evening of Friday, March 22, we received two reports of a group of youths causing a disturbance at business premises on Old Skene Road, Aberdeen.

“Officers attended, and advice was given to two people traced nearby. There was no damage to the premises.”

Local MP Andrew Bowie said: “This is an awful thing for anyone to have to go through. These people were just innocently going about their jobs.

“It’s hard to imagine the kind of alarm the owner must have felt, to have to lock everyone inside for their protection.

“I’m asking for a meeting with the divisional commander about how local policing responds to incidents like this. It is not a typical thing for Westhill, nor is it acceptable for gangs of people to act this way, anywhere.”
