'Several sightings' of drone flown illegally near city airport

Some of the sightings were likely to have been within Aberdeen airport's no-fly zone

A drone has been sighted flying illegally near Aberdeen airport, prompting police to issue an appeal for information.

Police said that there were ‘several sightings’ of the drone in the areas of Riverside Drive, and Stoneywood in Dyce.

The sightings at Stoneywood are likely to have been within the no-fly zone surrounding the airport.

The incidents were reported to police at around 10.30am on Wednesday, July 6.

PC Claire Low, from Border Policing Command at Aberdeen Airport said: “We are making enquiries to trace the drone’s pilot and establish the circumstances which led to the drone operating in the area.

“If anyone has any questions about how and where to fly a drone safely, please check with the Civil Aviation Authority or Drone Safe website.

“Anyone with information on this incident can contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 0966 for Wednesday, July 6.”
