Council planning chiefs have recommended approving plans to turn a Broughty Ferry mansion into holiday apartments and an exclusive dining venue.
Under the plans lodged by Olivier Properties Ltd, Broomhall House on Albert Road will be converted into 13 self-catering apartments.
Most of the apartments would be open-plan, with the bedroom, living, and kitchenette facilities all being within the same room.
The attached conservatory and billiards room will also be turned into an exclusive fine dining venue and a lounge room.
The B-listed jute mansion dates from 1865 and was most recently run as a popular café Jessie’s Kitchen. This closed over two years ago.
The application has drawn a draft of public objections, with 19 letters submitted to the local authority opposing the development.
Among the concerns raised include additional noise, increased traffic and impacts to neighbouring residential amenities.
However, 10 letters of support for the development have also been received.
Supporters hope the proposed transformation will help bring more visitors to Broughty Ferry and boost the local economy.
An accompanying statement submitted by Jon Frullani Architect Ltd said: “We are proposing to bring a facility to Broughty Ferry that will allow the local community continued use of a building they have attended for many years.
“In addition to providing high-quality short-stay apartments that will help Broughty Ferry continue to be a desirable destination… the building which is currently in decay will be restored to its former glory.”
Application Recommended for approval
Despite the bid not fully complying with the city development plan, council officials have recommended the bid be approved, saying there are “material considerations of sufficient weight” to justify approval of planning permission.
The proposals will go before councillors at the authority’s planning committee next week.
