The developers of Taymouth Castle are finalising plans for holiday cottages at Moness Resort in Aberfeldy.

River Tay Development Ltd is currently undertaking a £300 million development of the grand Perthshire castle to create an exclusive resort for the mega-rich.

A proposal of application notice (PAN) was put before councillors this week to allow holiday cottages at Moness to be used for holiday lets or staff accommodation for employees of Taymouth Castle Estate, Kenmore.

River Tay Development Ltd has submitted a PAN to Perth and Kinross Council for the change of use. It went before Perth and Kinross Council’s Planning and Placemaking Committee on April 16.

At Wednesday’s meeting, Highland Perthshire ward councillor Mike Williamson raised the issue of developer contributions.

The SNP councillor said: “I know there’s a fine line between requiring them and not requiring them because we are getting housing into the community. But I think it would be important we get an officer position on that.”

He also asked for further details on access to the site from the rear.

Bailie Williamson said: “I’m not sure if it’s the intention to actually open that access up to allow people easier access into Aberfeldy or just use the main entrance. It would be good to get some clarity on that too.”

A second public consultation event is due to take place on Tuesday, April 22 at Moness Hotel and Resort.
