Police have warned that roads “are not a racetrack” during lockdown after a driver was allegedly clocked speeding at 132mph.

The force branded the speed “phenomenally stupid” after a black Audi A4 was reportedly recorded travelling at nearly twice the limit on the M90.

The alleged incident took place between J10 (Perth) and J9 (Bridge of Earn) in Perthshire at around 10.30pm on Saturday night.

A 33-year-old man will be the subject of a report to the Procurator Fiscal.

Posting a picture online of the alleged recorded speed, Tayside Police said: “The quieter roads are not a racetrack.

“This recorded speed on the M90 near Bridge of Earn last night was phenomenal – phenomenally stupid that is.”

Inspector Greg Burns added: “While the roads may be quieter due to the coronavirus lockdown, they are no less dangerous.

“If you are caught speeding and find yourself being fined or banned, you have no-one to blame but yourself.

“It’s also worth reminding everyone that even though you may be using your car less frequently than usual, it still needs to be fully and properly insured.”
