People urged to adopt cats as rescue home forced to close

A home for rescued cats has appealed for people to adopt a new pet after being told it must close imminently due to coronavirus.

The Arbroath and Central Angus Cats Protection Centre is to close its doors this week and is looking for homes for a number of pets. The animals will be moved to the main headquarters in Glasgow until they are rehomed.

A spokesperson for the Angus centre said: “We have several cats still looking for their forever homes who will have to be transferred to the Glasgow Adoption Centre if not offered a home by then.

‘They will have to remain in cages until the situation changes.’

“Once there, they will have to remain in cages until the situation changes.

“We are very keen that these cats do not have to face that unknown future and are appealing for homes for them.

“If you are considering getting a cat in the near future, perhaps you can bring your plans forward. Details of all these lovely cats can be found on our website www.arbroath.cats.org.uk.“

Among the cats needing homes are a pair of grey felines, an indoor female cat and an elderly cat.

Anyone who wishes to adopt the cats should contact the Glasgow Cats Protection Centre.

A spokesperson for Cats Protection UK added: ” The Arbroath and Central Angus Branch Adoption Centre is run entirely by volunteers so we have made the decision to transfer any unreserved cats to the Glasgow Adoption Centre, where they will cared for by our staff.

“The Adoption Centre will be staffed seven days a week where the cats will receive the excellent standard of care we deliver throughout Cats Protection.

“Unfortunately the Arbroath and Central Angus Branch Adoption Centre is now closed to the public and we will not be rehoming any cats [from Arbroath] until further notice.”
