A pensioner has died following a smash between a bus and a car in Moray.

The 80-year-old man, who was driving a Dacia Duster, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash happened on the A96 near the junction of Morriston Road, Elgin, shortly after 9.30am on Friday.

The male driver of the service bus was taken to Dr Grey's Hospital in Elgin with minor injuries. None of the passengers on board were injured.

Emergency services – including three fire engines and a paramedic response unit – attended.

The road was closed into the evening while investigation works took place.

Enquiries are now ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the collision.

Sergeant Craig McNeill, of Police Scotland's Road Policing Unit, said: "Our thoughts are very much with this man's family and friends at this time.

"I would ask anyone who may have witnessed the collision, saw either vehicle before the incident or who was in the area at the time and has a dashcam, to get in touch.”
