A major police inquiry is under way after an 86-year-old woman was found seriously injured within her home in Perthshire.
She was discovered unconscious last Friday evening by members of her family at her semi-detached bungalow in Kirkhill Drive in Luncarty.
She was taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee by ambulance and remains in a stable condition.
Detectives say her injuries are “unexplained” and forensic work is ongoing to establish what has happened.
“An 86-year-old woman [was] found unconscious with significant injuries in her house on Friday evening by family members, who were obviously distraught,” explained detective inspector Marc Lorente.
“That lady could have been lying there from Wednesday evening.”
A major inquiry, led by Police Scotland’s specialist crime division, is now under way to piece together what has happened.
“There has been a significant police presence. We’re doing forensic work, house-to-house and CCTV work in the area, and we’re looking to track every single person in that street between last Wednesday evening and Friday evening,” said DI Lorente.
“We know for a fact that there were a couple of vehicles from Wednesday to Friday in her driveway, we know that there were people attending at her door and we’re really keen for these people to come forward.
“What I can say is that we’re not ruling anything out.
“I think it goes without saying with the resources we’re putting into it, we’re treating it as a serious incident.”
