A pensioner has died following a two-vehicle crash in Aberdeenshire.

The 82-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene following the crash on the A90, shortly after 11am on Tuesday, July 12.

She had been driving a red Dacia Sandero on the Ellon to Peterhead road just north of Hatton, when it collided with a grey Vauxhall Zafira.

A 76-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the Dacia, suffered serious but not life threatening injuries and was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for treatment.

The driver of the Vauxhall, a 49-year-old man, was uninjured as a result of the collision.

Drivers are being asked to take an alternative route whilst the A90 remains closed, with diversions in place via Mintlaw.

Sergeant Steve Manson, from the North East Road Policing Unit said: “As we continue our enquiries in to the collision, our thoughts remain with the family of the driver who sadly died.

“I would appeal for anyone who witnessed the incident and has not yet spoken to Police, or anyone who has dashcam of the area either before or immediately after the collision, to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 1103 of July 12, 2022.”
