Passengers have been evacuated from a train in Angus after it broke down mid-service.

ScotRail confirmed that the train developed a fault between Montrose and Arbroath, forcing those on board to leave the carriages.

One eyewitness told STV News that “distressed and angry passengers” had been stuck on the train for a significant period of time before being transferred to a southbound train.

A replacement bus service between Dundee and Aberdeen is in operation.
