Police have confirmed “no criminality has been established” after reports of an attempted kidnapping near an Aberdeen school circulated on social media.

Emergency services were alerted to a group of men approaching a child in the Moir Drive area, close to Northfield Academy at around 3.10pm on Monday afternoon.

Posts circulating online alleged that a boy was approached by five people in a yellow car who “attempted to kidnap” him.

Police Scotland confirmed that an investigation was carried out, however, no crime was established

A spokesperson from the force said: “Around 3.10pm on Monday, February 9, 2026, officers received a report that men approached a child in the Moir Drive area of Aberdeen.

“Enquiries were carried out and no criminality was established.”
