No arrests made following death of baby girl in church car park

Ivy Mae Ross died in hospital after being struck by a Land Rover after a church gathering at Plymouth Brethren meeting hall.

Police have made no arrests following the death of a one-year-old baby girl in Aberdeenshire.

Ivy Mae Ross died in hospital after being struck by a Land Rover after a church gathering at Plymouth Brethren meeting hall on Eigie Road in Balmedie at around 7.45pm on Wednesday evening.

The child from Whitecairns was taken by ambulance to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary where she died a short time later.

The 40-year-old man driving the car was uninjured.

Ivy Mae’s family said they were “devastated” by the loss.

A report on the circumstances has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal and no arrests or charges have been made in connection with the death.

In a statement released through Police Scotland, Ivy Mae’s parents said: “Our beautiful daughter Ivy Mae passed away following a tragic accident after our regular church gathering in Balmedie.

“We are absolutely devastated and ask that our privacy is respected at this challenging time.

“We value all the prayers and messages of sympathy and support we have received from the local community.

“The emergency services tireless work and support is greatly appreciated.”

Sergeant Lesley Morrison said: “Our thoughts are very much with Ivy’s family at what is an incredibly hard time for them.

“Our enquiries to establish the full circumstances of what happened are ongoing and I would ask anyone who can help who has not already spoken to officers to get in touch.”

Anyone who can assist is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 3390 of Wednesday, 15 May, 2024.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Enquiries have been carried out into a fatal crash in the Eigie Road area of Balmedie and a report on the circumstances has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
