A new school in Fife will not be called “Schooly McSchool Face” after kids were told the novelty name wouldn’t “cut it”.

Suggestions for the new South West Fife secondary school, which will relocate the current Inverkeithing High School, have been requested.

The consultation opens on December 12 and will involve pupils and staff from all the associated schools. It also includes an online form that members of the public can fill in.

Councillor David Barratt, convenor of the South and West Fife Area Committee, said the council wanted as many suggestions as possible, especially from students attending the new school.

However, he warned that the name has to “mean something”, adding that “Schooly McSchool Face” is not going to cut it.

“We want to hear from all voices in the local community so please go online and make your suggestion by January 22, 2025 if you want to have it considered,” he added.

The suggestions will be curated into a shortlist by the area committee, which will be put forward for further consultation before elected members make the final name decision in April.

This form is available on the Fife Council website at New SW Fife High School – Inverkeithing High School replacement.

Construction on the new school is well underway. Some of the steel structure is in place, and will be painted in the same shade of red as the Forth Rail Bridge.

The council said the red was a nod to one of Fife and Scotland’s most famous landmarks.
