A bid for a new Dundee FC training complex has been recommended for approval by council planning chiefs.

If given the green light, Riverside Drive will receive a new training complex, and the existing pitches used for amateur football will be redeveloped.

The new facility will provide training space for youth teams across the city and an “enhanced” girls’ and women’s programme.

The existing facilities available to the club’s first team will also be boosted.

The proposed complex will be built and managed by the Dundee FC Community Trust and be available to the wider community.

However, the plans have drawn a raft of objections from locals – with 61 letters of representation lodged against the bid.

Among the concerns raised are fears over increased traffic and parking congestion, the effect on wildlife, light pollution, and flooding.

A total of 38 representations were also received in favour of the new training ground plan.

Council bosses have recommended the bid for approval, saying there are “material considerations of sufficient weight” that justify granting planning permission.

The application will go before councillors at a planning committee meeting on Monday.
