Police have launched a murder investigation following the death of a 40-year-old man in Alloa.

Officers were called around 12.25am on Thursday, December 18, to a report of concern for an injured man at an address on Gartmorn Road in Sauchie.

William Devaney, from the local area, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Following a post-mortem examination, his death is now being treated as murder.

In a statement, his family described William as: “A really nice person, so joyful, full of life and full of banter. Everybody loved him and he loved everybody.

“He will be sadly missed by all his family and friends and was loved by all.”

A 26-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with his death.

He is due to appear at Alloa Sheriff Court on Monday, December 22, 2025.

Detective Inspector Steven McLean, of the Major Investigation Team, said: “Our thoughts are with William’s family and friends at what is an extremely difficult time. We are offering them support as our investigation progresses.

“Extensive enquiries are ongoing and we have a dedicated team of specialist officers working through all lines of enquiry.

“Anyone who believes they may have information which has not yet been passed to police is asked to get in touch as soon as possible.

Chief Inspector Garry Smith, local area commander for Clackmannanshire, said: “Incidents like this in our community are shocking but rare. O
