Police launch murder probe following death of 32-year-old woman

Police were called to Anderson Drive in Elgin on Thursday evening, where a woman was pronounced dead.

A murder inquiry has been launched following the death of a 32-year-old woman in Moray.

Officers were called to a property on Anderson Drive in Elgin on Thursday evening.

Emergency services attended the scene, where a woman was pronounced dead.

Following a post mortem examination, her death is being treated as murder and extensive enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

Formal identification of the woman has not yet taken place.

The investigation is being led by detectives from Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Team.

Officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to please come forward. 

Detective Superintendent Lorna Ferguson said: “Our thoughts are with the woman’s family and friends at this very difficult time, and our specially trained officers will continue to support them as our enquiries continue.

“It’s imperative we find out exactly what happened to her and we have a dedicated team of officers working on this investigation. I would like to reassure the local community that everything is being done to trace the person responsible and extensive enquiries remain ongoing.

“I am appealing to the public for help. I’m urging anyone who was in the area between 4.30pm on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 and 7.20pm on Thursday, November 16, 2023, and saw anything they believe may assist our investigation to get in touch. 

“It may seem small or insignificant but it could be vital to help us establish what happened to and give family the answers they deserve.

“We are also keen to speak to anyone who has dash cam footage, private CCTV or doorbell footage.

“There will be an increased police presence in the local area while we carry out extensive enquiries. Anyone with information or concerns can also speak to these officers.”
