An elderly woman who has been missing from her home in Carnoustie for more than 24 hours is believed to have travelled to the Isle of Arran.

Marjorie Smith was last seen in the Woodside Terrace area at around 10.15am on Wednesday.

Following enquiries, she is believed to have got off a ferry on the Isle of Arran around 1.50pm on Thursday.

The 84-year-old usually walks with a red three-wheeled walking aid with a seat attached.

Her clothing when she was last seen is not known.

Concerns are growing for the pensioner as the country endures the hottest day of the year.

Marjorie is described as white, around 5ft 4in in height, of a medium build, with short grey hair.

Police are appealing for anyone who has seen her to get in contact as soon as possible.

Inspector Colin Watson said: “We are growing concerned for Marjorie’s welfare and our enquiries are ongoing to trace her.

“We are appealing to anyone who may have seen Marjorie or who has any information on her whereabouts to please contact us as soon as possible.”
