Central Scotland News AgencyA man who raped a vulnerable teenage girl before sexually assaulting her in a holiday park hot tub has been jailed for seven years.
Paul Annal, 44, sat the 16-year-old on his lap and assaulted her in the outdoor tub at Ruthven Falls Holiday Lodges in Angus, where he had taken her after Christmas 2023.
The High Court in Stirling heard Annal’s wife confronted him and demanded: “What the f**k is going on?”
Annal was arrested and told police, “I don’t agree with it.”
The incident happened on December 29, 2023.
The child went on to disclose that Annal had raped her two days earlier at his house in Camelon, Falkirk.
His semen was found on clothing she had been wearing.
The court heard Annal was aware that the child had been in care and was “vulnerable, younger than her years”.
Annal, who became a lorry driver after serving in the Army, was said to have been drinking on both occasions.
He told the court he and his wife were now “not together”.
After a four-day trial in March, the jury found Annal guilty of rape and sexual assault. The verdicts were unanimous on both charges.
He had denied the offences and said the girl was “lying”.
He claimed in evidence he had simply been “helping her do crunches” in the hot tub.
Judge Lord Stuart deferred sentence for reports.
On Thursday, Annal observed proceedings via video link from custody.
Lord Stuart placed him on the Sex Offenders Register for life and told him he needed to go to prison for his crimes.
