A man has been taken to hospital following an incident at Fraserburgh Harbour in Aberdeenshire which sparked a major emergency service response.

Three ambulances and a special operations team (SORT) were sent to the scene around 11.30am after three men became unwell while working on a boat at the harbour.

One man was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary by ambulance and two others were treated at the scene.

Police were also in attendance and are investigating the incident which has been reported to the Health and Safety Executive.

A spokesperson said: “Around 11.40am on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, we were called to Harbour Road, Fraserburgh, after three men became unwell while working on a boat at the harbour.

“Emergency services attended and the men have been taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary to be checked over as a precaution.

“Enquiries are ongoing and emergency services remain at the scene.

“The Health and Safety Executive has been informed.”

A Maritime and Coastguard Agency spokesperson added: “One man was taken to hospital by ambulance after three men fell ill on a vessel berthed in Fraserburgh at about 12.30pm on 14 August. All three were later reported safe and well.

“Police Scotland and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were alerted. A Maritime and Coastguard Agency surveyor is attending the vessel for a fact-finding visit. The Marine Accident Investigation Branch was informed, as routine.”

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were alerted at 11.40am on Wednesday August 14 to assist partners on a vessel at Fraserburgh Harbour, Aberdeenshire.

“Operations Control mobilised four appliances and a specialist unit to the scene where firefighters assisted colleagues from the Scottish Ambulance Service with three casualties.

“Two people did not require further treatment. One person was taken to hospital.

“Firefighters left after ensuring the area was made safe.”
