Paul Devlin / SNS Group via SNS GroupA persistent criminal carried out a sex attack on a vulnerable teenage girl in a ladies’ toilet after he was freed from prison on licence.
Colin Yeats assaulted the 15-year-old in a cubicle at the Saltoun Inn in Fraserburgh.
The 43-year-old admitted assaulting the victim by sexually penetrating her on July 26 last year during an appearance at the High Court in Edinburgh.
Yeats had been released on licence from jail in June 2025, where he was serving a sentence for drug crime, and was unemployed.
The girl had gone out to another pub in Fraserburgh to watch a show on July 26 last year when she encountered Yeats, who bought her a vodka.
CCTV footage showed Yeats and the girl leaving the bar and walking in the direction of the Saltoun Inn.
Advocate depute Chris Jones said: “Upon entering the Saltoun Inn, they climbed the stairs to the first floor and entered the ladies’ toilets.”
“The complainer entered a toilet cubicle, and the accused followed her into it. The complainer exited the cubicle and moved to another, with the accused following.
“The complainer recalls entering the cubicle.”
Yeats then assaulted the teenager as she was against a door.
Mr Jones said: “The CCTV footage shows the victim and the accused remained in the toilet cubicle for around eight minutes, before leaving together shortly after an unknown woman entered the toilets.”
They returned to the previous bar, and the girl was later seen being sick in a lane.
The advocate depute said: “Shortly thereafter, the complainer made distressed disclosures to three close confidantes.”
She made a video call to a friend, who saw that her eyes were swollen as if she had been crying for some time.
She revealed that Yeats sexually assaulted her and said she had been drinking and did not know what was going on. Her friend reassured her that it was not her fault.
A relative found the girl in her bedroom, crying and hitting herself on the head. She became hysterical as she revealed what occurred.
The girl left her home, and her female relatives later found her at a 24-hour garage, standing alone and crying.
Yeats claimed during an interview with police that he accompanied the girl to the Saltoun Inn to “meet her lad”.
At first, he denied entering the women’s toilet, but then accepted that he did go into the toilets, but denied entering the cubicle.
Mr Jones said: “He claimed he had looked into the cubicle and that the complainer was sat, fully dressed, on her phone.”
He told police that he then went back out of the toilets and waited for her to emerge.
A judge deferred sentence on Yeats for the preparation of a background report on him and risk assessment.
Lord Summers placed him on the sex offenders’ register.
He said: “His record includes multiple convictions for drug offences, road traffic offences and breach of court orders.”
