A man has missed his flight home for Christmas after he was arrested for “being drunk onboard an aircraft”.

The 51-year-old boarded the plane at Aberdeen Airport on Thursday evening, but had to be removed before it took off.

Police officers seized the man and charged him for alleged drunkenness.

In a warning, Police Scotland urged people travelling for Christmas to make sure they are “fit to fly this festive period”.

A spokesperson for AGS Airports Ltd, which owns Aberdeen, Glasgow and Southampton Airports, said: “The vast majority of passengers travelling through our doors do so responsibly and incidents are extremely rare.

“Aberdeen International Airport continues to operate a zero-tolerance approach to disruptive behaviour which can disproportionately affect a large number of passengers on board an aircraft.”

Police Scotland said the man would be reported to the Procurator Fiscal.
