A man has died following a street attack in Aberdeen left him seriously injured on Monday.

Police were called to reports of a disturbance at around 11.50pm on Sunday, March 12, in Carmelite Lane.

Emergency services attended and a 50-year-old man was taken to hospital.

He died at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary on the evening of Tuesday, March 14. His family have been made aware.

A 45-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with the incident, with further enquiries remaining ongoing.

Police have been checking relevant CCTV images from in and around the area for any additional information and have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

Detective inspector Jamie Sherlock earlier said: “From our inquiries, we know there were a number of people in the area at the time of the disturbance and I would urge these members of the public to contact us.

“In particular, I would ask those with recording equipment to check the footage as it could assist our investigation.”
