A man has been charged in connection with the death of a nine-year-old girl who was found injured in an industrial estate in Angus.

The child, who was from West Yorkshire, was discovered in Elliot Industrial Estate in Arbroath shortly after midnight on Sunday.

She was taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, alongside three other patients, where she was pronounced dead.

The other patients, who are related to the girl, were discharged.

A 35-year-old, who is a white British man, and was known to the girl, was arrested in connection with her death.

He was also taken to Ninewells Hospital by the police and was later discharged.

The man has now been charged and is due to appear at Dundee Sheriff Court on Wednesday.

The girl’s family, who had been camping in the area, are being supported by specialist officers, Police Scotland said.

Officers are not looking for anyone else in connection with the girl’s death.

Detective Inspector Mike Ness of the Major Investigation Team said: “Our thoughts remain with those affected by these events.

“A police presence will remain in the area while our enquiries continue.

“Anyone with any concerns, or information, should approach these officers or contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 0008 of Monday, August 3, 2026.”
