A residential street in Angus was locked down following a ‘siege’ which saw armed officers descend on an address.

Police were called to Strathairlie Avenue in Arbroath at around 10.30am on Monday, April 17, following reports of a disturbance at an address.

Armed officers, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and the Scottish Ambulance Service were seen in attendance and the street was closed down.

Locals reported that the gas board had shut down the supply to the area.

Emergency services remained in the area throughout the day, and police were reportedly stopping people from entering the area.

Police confirmed that shortly before 5pm, a 49-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident and has been charged.

He is due to appear in court on Tuesday, April 18, and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 10.30am on Monday, April 17 2023, police were called to a report of a disturbance at an address in Strathairlie Avenue, Arbroath.

“Around 4.55pm, a 49-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident.  He has since been charged and is due to appear at court on Tuesday, April 18 2023. A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.

“As a precaution, a number of residents were evacuated from the flats, however, have since returned home.”
