A man has been arrested after disorder broke out at anti-immigration protests in Arbroath.

Police confirmed they attended planned protest activity in Arbroath High Street on Saturday.

Several roads were closed and barriers were put up around Arbroath train station as protestors demonstrated and marched through the town.

There have been no further details surrounding the circumstances of the arrest.

Footage on social media appeared to show protestors and police coming together in heated exchanges.

A statement from police said: “Officers attended planned protest activity in Arbroath High Street on Saturday, 20 June, 2026.

“Following disorder at several locations in Arbroath town centre, one man was arrested and enquiries are ongoing.”

It comes after a 23-year-old white British man was arrested and charged following reports of a serious sexual assault in the Bridge Street area of town earlier this month.

At the time, police said online posts suggesting this incident involved illegal migrants was “inaccurate” and they had not received any reports of further incidents.
