A man has appeared in court after a football player was struck by a seat at a match between Aberdeen and Dundee United on Saturday.

Aberdeen defender Jack MacKenzie required medical treatment after he was hit by part of a chair which appeared to have been thrown from the upper deck of Tannadice’s Fair Play stand, which housed Aberdeen fans.

Images showed the 24-year-old with a bandage around his head being wheeled off the pitch.

David Gowans, from Aberdeen, appeared at Dundee Sheriff Court charged with culpable and reckless conduct. The 31-year-old made no plea and was granted bail.

His next court appearance is to be confirmed.
