Man and woman dead after car crash with HGV

The driver and passenger travelling in a Mercedes were pronounced dead while the lorry driver was taken to hospital.

A man and woman have died in a road crash involving their car and an HGV in Perthshire.

Police were called to the scene around 5.45pm on Thursday in the A9 between Bankfoot and Birnam near Dunkeld.

The male driver and a female passenger of a Mercedes C200 were both pronounced dead at the scene.

The 37-year-old driver of a HGV was rushed to Ninewells Hospital but was later released.

Police are calling for witnesses and anyone with dashcam footage to come forward to help with investigations.

Traffic Scotland announced the road was closed at around 6pm and it did not open again until Friday morning around 7.20am.

Sergeant David Farr from the Road Policing Unit at Perth said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man and woman who died following this crash.

“The investigation into the crash is ongoing and we would appeal to anyone who witnessed the crash take place who has not yet spoken to police to contact us. We are also keen to obtain any dashcam from motorists driving on the road around the time of the crash.

“Anyone with information should contact Road Policing Officers through 101 with reference 2569 of October 6.”
