A man has died after a flat fire in Aberdeen.

Officers responded to reports of a fire at a property in Middlefield Crescent around 7.10am on June 6.

Scottish Fire and Rescue services sent three fire engines to the scene alongside crews to extinguish the fire.

Police confirmed a 61-year-old man died at the scene, and his family has been informed.

A joint investigation between Police Scotland and Scottish Fire and Rescue Services is “ongoing”.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 7.10am on Thursday, June 6, 2024, we were called to a fire at a property in Middlefield Crescent, Aberdeen.

“Emergency services attended and the fire was extinguished by Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

“A 61-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. His family is aware.

“A joint investigation ongoing is between Police and Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

“Officers remain at the scene.”

A spokesperson for Scottish Fire and Rescue added: “We were alerted at 7.05am on Thursday, 6 June to reports of a fire within a flat on Middlefield Crescent, Aberdeen.

“Operations Control mobilised three appliances to the scene and crews extinguished the fire.

“Sadly, a man passed away at the scene.

“Our thoughts are very much with his family, friends and the wider community at this difficult time.”
