A major search is under way for an experienced hill runner who has gone missing in Glen Lyon in Perthshire.

Chris Smith, 43, was last seen around 3pm on Tuesday and was later reported missing at 7.30pm.

Tayside Mountain Rescue team and the police are being assisted by a Coastguard helicopter.

The search began on Tuesday night and is continuing on Wednesday.

Mr Smith is an experienced hill runner and has represented Team GB in the sport.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers in Perthshire and mountain rescue teams are carrying out searches in the Glenlyon area following a report of a missing 43-year-old man.

“Chris Smith was last seen at around 3pm on Tuesday, October 27.

“Emergency services are being assisted in the searches by the Coastguard helicopter.

“Anyone with information is urged to contact police on 101, quoting incident 2775 of October 27.”
