Lorry driver dies at scene after HGV leaves road

A lorry had crashed off the side of the road and the driver, a 53-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man has been pronounced dead after a lorry came off the road on the A92 in Fife.

A large emergency service response including an air ambulance were called to the major road between the M90 and the Crossgates Roundabout in Cowdenbeath after 10am on Tuesday.

A lorry had crashed off the side of the road and the driver, a 53-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was closed for a number of hours as drivers were urged to avoid the area.

Police said enquiries into the crash are ongoing.

Sergeant Mike Thomson of Fife Road Policing said: “Our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends at this difficult time.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”

A spokesperson for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: “We received a call at 10.08am to attend an incident on the A92 Cowdenbeath.

“Two special operations response teams (SORT), one ambulance and an air ambulance with trauma team were dispatched to the scene.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 10.09am on Tuesday, July 16 to reports of a collision involving a heavy goods vehicle on the A92 near Cowdenbeath, Fife.

“Operations Control immediately mobilised four appliances and a heavy rescue unit.

“Crews have now left the scene after ensuring it was safe.”
