Investigations have been launched into 16 deaths at two care homes in the north east, where there have been outbreaks of coronavirus.

The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service confirmed it has received reports in connection with the deaths of seven people at Inchmarlo House Care Home, near Banchory in Aberdeenshire, and nine at Deeside Care Home in Cults, Aberdeen.

There have been 91 positive Covid cases at Inchmarlo and 52 at Deeside.

A COPFS spokesperson said: “The investigation into the deaths is ongoing and the families will continue to be kept updated in relation to any significant developments.”

An Inchmarlo statement said on Wednesday: “The loss of any member of the Inchmarlo family is a tragedy, and our thoughts are with all those affected including their family, friends and the staff involved in their care.

“We are not able to comment further, due to the need for privacy of all residents and out of respect for all families, with whom we are in regular communication.”
