Investigation launched after man found dead in early morning house fire

Police confirmed a 74-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A investigation has been launched after man was found dead after an early morning house fire in Moray.

Emergency services including three fire crews were called to a property at Connage Cottages on the A89 near Buckie at around 6am on Tuesday, March 19.

Scottish Fire and Rescue and Police Scotland are now conducting a joint investigation into the cause of the blaze.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Around 6.35am on Tuesday, March 19 we were made aware of a fire at a property near the A98 outside Buckie.

“Emergency services attended and a 74-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“His next of kin are aware.

“Enquiries are ongoing into the cause of the fire.

“A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”

Stevie Nesbit, On-Call Duty Officer for North Service Delivery Area within the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, said: “We were alerted at 6.06am on Tuesday, March 19, to reports of a house fire at Connage Cottages in Buckie, Moray.

“Operations Control mobilised three appliances to the scene and unfortunately, a male was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Our thoughts are very much with his family, friends, and the wider community at this difficult time.

“A joint investigation alongside Police Scotland colleagues is now ongoing.”
