IKEA is set to relocate to a shopping mall in Aberdeen next year following the closure of its current order and collection point on the outskirts of the city.
The Swedish DIY furniture company has announced plans to bring an updated plan and order point format to Union Square in spring 2026.
IKEA previously announced plans to close the order and collection point at Wellington Circle in October, as the company explored ‘new locations’ in the city
Opening in May 2016, the store was the first of its kind in Scotland. It was designed to allow customers to order items online for collection or home delivery.
The company’s new “plan and order points” are smaller stores designed to provide customers with bespoke kitchen, bedroom and storage planning services.
IKEA said customers can access home furnishing advice and expertise to assist them in “planning, purchasing, and installing their ideal kitchens, bedrooms, and living room storage”.
Products can then be ordered from across the full IKEA range for delivery to the customer’s home or to any IKEA branch.
IKEA has confirmed it plans to close its existing store at Wellington Circle, but the store remains open as usual until further notice.
Kevin Coventry, market manager at IKEA, said: “Our new Plan and Order Point format is designed to better meet the needs of our customers in Aberdeen, offering free consultations with our planning specialists to help design their dream spaces, as well as the order, collection and return services that are available in all our stores.
“We look forward to welcoming customers inside next year.”
