Grandfather killed in two-car crash named by police

Police have named a man who died following a two-car collision in Aberdeenshire.

Grandfather Daniel Gilfillan, 67, was involved in a crash near Nether Balfour on the B9077 Kirkton of Durris to Aberdeen road at around 1.45pm on Saturday.

The family of Mr Gilfillan, from Portlethen, thanked people for their messages of support following the death of their “beloved husband, father and grandad”.

Police have appealed for witnesses to the crash involving a blue Seat Leon and a grey Renault Captur.

Sergeant Peter Henderson said: “Our inquiries into the collision are ongoing and I would urge anyone who was in the area at the time and who hasn’t already spoken to police to please do so.

“I am particularly keen to identify a red car which may have passed the location travelling towards Aberdeen around the time of the collision.”
