A car – which had the letters ‘BMW’ taped to it – was abandoned on the A9 after fleeing the scene of a crash and “driving dangerously” in Perth.

Police are searching for a navy blue Ford Fiesta that did not stop after a collision at around 10.40am on Monday on West Bridge Street in the city centre in which no one was injured.

Officers said the car – which had the letters ‘BMW’ taped to its bonnet and boot – drove through a red light on Atholl Street at the junctions with Kinnoul Street and North Methven Street.

The car was then seen on the A9 heading south at the Dunkeld junction before it was abandoned on the dual carriageway a mile south of the Birnam junction.

A Police Scotland statement read: “Enquiries are ongoing to trace the driver and anyone with information that could help is asked to get in touch with officers.

“If you were driving in the city centre or on the A9 at the time please check if you have dash-cam footage that could assist with enquiries.

“Please contact us via 101, quoting incident numbers 0937 and 1014 of Monday, July 1 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
