Some flights faced disruption at Aberdeen International Airport on Boxing Day after a “technical issue” on the runway.

It’s understood that a LoganAir airplane that was due to fly to Dublin on Friday morning suffered a blown tyre.

All passengers were disembarked from the aircraft and returned to the terminal.

Two flights were diverted to Edinburgh as a result – a 10.15am arrival from Amsterdam, and and one from Alicante and 10.50am.

The 10.50am service between Aberdeen and Amsterdam had to be cancelled.

A Loganair spokesperson said: “We can confirm our flight from Aberdeen to Dublin experienced a technical problem on departure.

“As a precaution, the passengers were disembarked safely and returned to the terminal, where they were taken into the care of our ground teams. The aircraft will now be taken to our hangar for further inspection.

“Safety is always our primary concern, and we thank the crew and the airport for their assistance.”

A spokesperson for Aberdeen International Airport confirmed two flights were diverted after a Loganair aircraft had a technical issue. Normal operations have resumed.
