Five teens charged after 'pyrotechnic incidents' at football match

Teen charged after ten-year-old ‘struck by flare’ at football match at McDiarmid Park in Perth SNS Group

A teenager been charged after a ten-year-old boy was allegedly struck by a pyrotechnic during a football match at McDiarmid Park in Perth.

Emergency services were called to St Johnstone’s clash with Dundee on Saturday after a child was allegedly struck by the pyrotechnic thrown from a section of the ground.

He was treated for a facial injury by paramedics at the scene.

A 15-year-old male was arrested and charged after the alleged incident.

Two 17-year-old males were also arrested and charged following other pyrotechnics allegedly being used at the game.

 All three will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

A further two males, aged 13 and 15, will be reported to the Youth Justice Assessor after being charged in connection with further alleged pyrotechnics use at the game.

St Johnstone Football Club said it was “extremely saddened and concerned” by the incident and wished the child a speedy recovery.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “A 15-year-old male was arrested and charged after a ten-year-old boy was struck by a pyrotechnic during the St Johnstone vs Dundee football match at McDiarmid Park in Perth on Saturday, March 30, 2024.

“Paramedics on site treated the ten-year-old boy for a facial injury.

“Two 17-year-old males were also arrested and charged following other pyrotechnics being used at the game. All three will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

“A further two males, aged 13 and 15, will be reported to the Youth Justice Assessor after being charged in connection with further pyrotechnics use at the game.”
