Around 100 youths caused chaos on Halloween and aimed lit fireworks at police called to disperse them.

The large-scale disturbance took place in the Kirkton area of Dundee at around 7.05pm on Saturday night.

When officers arrived at Beauly Square following complaints, the crowd launched fireworks at them and attempted to intimidate them.

Back-up was requested and public order-trainer officers attended to assist with the dispersal.

Police said those involved were mostly aged in their late-teens to early-20s.

Chief inspector David Mcintosh said: “Luckily no one was injured during this disorder, however this kind of behaviour is completely unacceptable.

“Our main priority at the time was ensuring the safety of the public and our officers, however enquiries are ongoing to identify those involved in this disturbance and take the appropriate action.

“Officers are carrying out additional patrols in the area to provide public reassurance.”
