Fire crews say they are continuing to ask members of the public who live or work locally to keep windows and doors closed due to smoke.

Moycroft Road north of Chanonry Road remains closed along with a section of Chanonry Road North.

There is no access to Tyock industrial estate from the A96, police said.

Any businesses in the industrial estate that remain open are advised to keep their windows and doors closed due to smoke from the fire.

A Police Scotland statement read: “Emergency Services are responding to a large fire in Moycroft Road area of Elgin.

“Police Scotland is advising members of the public and motorists to avoid the area if possible due to the large amount of smoke affecting the area.

“The following Road Closures have been put in place: Chanory Road North / Chanory Road South / Moycroft Road and Chanonty Street, Elgin.

“No access will be afforded to the area until further notice.”

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “Four fire appliances and a number of specialist resources are currently at the scene of a fire affecting a scrapyard on Moycroft Road, Elgin.

“We were first alerted to the incident at 10.35pm on Tuesday, August 5.

“There are no reports of any casualties and firefighters are expected to remain at the scene for some time.

“We are mindful of smoke travel and we’d advise local residents to keep windows and doors closed.

“Those living in the wider area should be vigilant and if you can see or smell smoke, take the same action.

“Members of the public no longer need to alert our Operations Control room about this fire, as we are receiving a number of calls to this incident.”
