Firefighters have tackled a “deliberate” fire at a beauty spot in Aberdeen, as an extreme wildfire warning has been put in place in parts of Scotland.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were called around 6.19pm on Thursday evening to a fire in the open at Kincorth Hill.
At the height of the incident, six appliances were sent to the scene, with local residents asked to keep their windows and doors closed as a precaution.
Smoke could be seen billowing across the city, including in the Bridge of Dee area.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze in an area of gorse measuring approximately 20,000 square metres and later left the scene around midnight.
Fubar NewsA Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “There were no reported casualties, and crews left the scene after ensuring the area was safe.”
Police have now confirmed the blaze is being treated as deliberate, with enquiries ongoing.
In April last year, crews battled another wildfire at the same beauty spot.
It comes amid a warning of an “extreme” risk of wildfires across the west of Scotland, which is in place from Friday until Sunday.
In central and eastern Scotland, a “very high” wildfire risk alert will be in place from Friday until Sunday.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and the Scottish Wildfire Forum have urged people to avoid lighting outdoor fires in those areas.
