Firefighters are continuing to tackle a blaze which broke out in the cargo hold of a ship docked at Aberdeen harbour.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said a “complex” investigation is ongoing 48 hours after emergency services arrived on the scene.
The fire has been contained to a cargo hold on the MV Lowlands Diamond, which sails under the flag of Panama, with marine firefighting specialists in attendance.
The ship docked in Aberdeen on Wednesday, January 22 and fire crews have been working to offload the affected cargo and extinguish the fire.
The vessel is not in immediate danger and its crew are said to be safe and well.
However, Area Commander Andrew Wright, SFRS local senior officer for Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire and Moray, said it has been a “complex and unusual incident” for crews.
He said: “Last week, we were made aware of an incident onboard the MV Lowlands Diamond involving a suspected fire contained to one of the ship’s cargo holds.
“The vessel made its way to Aberdeen South Port, where we are working with marine firefighting specialists to offload the affected cargo and safely extinguish the fire.
“This is a complex and unusual incident for the Service, and currently, we have been undertaking operations for 48 hours.
“There is the possibility we may still be in attendance for a number of days.
“The ship itself is in no immediate danger, there is no threat to the wider community and the crew is safe and well.”
The Port of Aberdeen confirmed the vessel is berthed at South Harbour, and it is supporting fire crews.
