Fire engulfs tenement block as flames shoot through roof

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was called to Princes Street in the city after 8.40pm on Thursday to attend a house fire.

Fire crews are tackling a blaze which broke out in a tenement block in Dundee.

Emergency services were called to the building on the corner of Graham Place and Princes Street at around 8.40pm on Thursday.

Flames could be seen rising up through the roof of the tenement that has the Princes Street Premier Convenience Store and Laings Appliances on the ground floor.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service deployed six appliances to the scene with crews still in attendance as of 10pm.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were alerted at 8.40pm on Thursday, September 5 to reports of a fire within a residential building on Graham Place in Dundee.

“Operations Control mobilised six fire engines and a height appliance to the scene.

“Crews remain in attendance.”

Police Scotland has been contacted for comment.
