Fire crews have extinguished a wildfire that broke out in Aberdeenshire on Wednesday morning.

At its peak, nine fire appliances were deployed to fight the blaze in the Suie Road area, near Alford, and a helicopter was used to dump water on the flames.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said it was alerted to the blaze at 11.36am on Wednesday.

Shortly after 10pm on Thursday, SFRS confirmed that the fire had been extinguished, and that fire crews would soon be leaving the scene.

A SFRS spokesperson said: “The stop message came in at 9.56pm, and our crews will be leaving there shortly.”

On Wednesday, people were being asked to avoid the area, and those living nearby were advised to keep doors and windows closed.
