Members of the public have been urged to avoid a street in Aberdeen after a fire broke out in a university building.

Emergency services were called to the blaze on the city’s Don Street at around 2.05pm on Monday.

The building impacted is understood to be Aberdeen University’s Hillhead Centre which is used to support student sports.

It is located on the opposite side of the Hillhead Student Village, which is unaffected.

The road has been shut, and the public is being told to stay away from the area.

The University has confirmed there are no reported injuries.

An investigation into the circumstances is ongoing.

A University of Aberdeen spokesperson said: “Emergency services were called to a fire at an empty building currently not in use as term has ended. There are no reports of any injuries. The University’s Security and Maintenance teams are also in attendance.”
