A fire which caused smoke damage to a dementia care home in Angus in the early hours of Monday morning is being treated as wilful.

At around 3am on Monday, January 9, wheelie bins were set on fire at the rear of Brookfield Residential Home in Maule Street, Carnoustie which quickly spread to nearby trees resulting in smoke damage to the outside of the building.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service attended and extinguished the fire and no one was injured as a result.

Sergeant Stewart Ramsay said: “Luckily no-one was injured as a result of this incident, however the consequences of setting this fire could have been much more serious.

“I would appeal to anyone who was in the area around 3am on Monday morning who witnessed anything suspicious, or anyone who has information regarding this crime to contact officers through 101 with reference 0306 of January 9, 2023.”
