False alarm sparks cordon around Donald Trump's golf course

A huge security operation has followed the US President across Scotland during his visit.

A false alarm sparked a cordon around Donald Trump’s Aberdeenshire golf course on Tuesday afternoon during his five-day Scotland visit.

Assistant chief constable Emma Bond said a cordon was set up shortly after 3pm for checks on a vehicle.

Members of the media at Trump International Golf Links waiting to leave were taken back behind a police barrier to wait for an hour.

A Royal Navy bomb disposal unit was already on the scene as part of the wider security operation in place for the President’s visit.

Police Scotland said a search of the suspect vehicle was completed and nothing criminal was found.

In response to enquiries about a cordon being set up at an entrance to the Menie Estate, a Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Shortly after 3pm, a security cordon was put in place at an entrance to the Menie Estate, Aberdeenshire, as officers carried out precautionary checks on a vehicle.

“This search has been completed, there was no criminality, and the cordon has been removed.”

An Army spokesperson said: “We can confirm that one of our EOD teams was called out to Menie in support of Police Scotland. A search was conducted, and nothing suspicious was found. Please refer any further enquiries to Police Scotland.”
