A facial reconstruction image has been created after a woman’s skull was found off the coast of Aberdeenshire.

Emergency services were called after human remains were found by a fishing boat in the North Sea, approximately 150 miles off Peterhead, at around 1.40pm on Wednesday, May 15, 2024.

Following forensic work, it was confirmed the skull belonged to a woman over 50 years old.

Her death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries remain ongoing, Police Scotland said.

The force sought specialist assistance from the University of Dundee to reconstruct the woman’s face based on her skull.

Officers are sharing the image in the hope that someone will recognise her.

Detective sergeant Emma Wright said: “Enquiries continue to identify this woman and establish what happened to her. We hope sharing this facial reconstruction will assist in with our investigations and help reunite her with her family.”

If you recognise the woman’s face, or any of the other details mentioned, you are asked to get in touch with officers by calling 101 and quoting incident number 1830 of Wednesday, May 15, 2024.
