An explorer has been rescued in Perth and Kinross after becoming stuck in a cave made famous in a Monty Python film.
Tayside Mountain Rescue Team was called to Loch Tay’s Tomnadashan Mine – otherwise known as the Cave of Caerbannog from the movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail – after a person became trapped on Tuesday.
A rope system was deployed into the cave, and the team said they successfully removed the “Killer Rabbit” before safely extracting the explorer.
The climber was uninjured following the rescue.
Tomnadashan Mine is a popular spot among Monty Python fans after being used in the film and even has its own page on TripAdvisor.
In the 1975 classic, which stars John Cleese, The Cave of Caerbannog is guarded by a “terrible monster” whose identity is at first unknown – but later revealed to be the “tiny Killer Rabbit of Caerbannog”.
A Tayside MRT spokesperson said: “Bit of a different one for us tonight.
“The team was called out to ‘the Cave of Caerbannog’ on Loch Tay, where team members used the ‘Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch’ to remove the ‘Killer Rabbit’ before rescuing a person who had become stuck in the cave.”
