The Scottish village of Dull has been invited to Vienna by the Austrian capital’s tourist board.

The wax-sealed invitations are to be delivered in person to the Perthshire village, which has around 100 residents, along with Viennese goodie bags, on November 29 and 30.

The tourist board chose the village, which is paired with Boring in Oregon, to prove that Vienna is anything but dull in January following the festive period as part of a new cultural initiative.

Dull residents will fly out from Edinburgh Airport on January 23 and stay at the iconic Hotel Imperial, which has previously hosted Queen Elizabeth II and the Rolling Stones.

During their stay in the Austrian capital, guests will attend the Vienna Ball of Science, exclusive museum tours, a tour of Schönbrunn Palace and a potential meeting with the UK ambassador to Austria.

The VIPs will fly back and return to their home in Dull on January 25.

Norbert Kettner, CEO of the Vienna Tourist Board, has said: “We’re proud of our museums, our concerts, our balls and our winter magic – but we also enjoy a good sense of humour.

“January is often considered the dullest month of the calendar, which is exactly why we wanted to bring Dull to Vienna.

“It’s the perfect opportunity to show how vibrant this season can truly be. We hope many residents will join us, and we’re eager to hear their expert judgement.”
